My first book Gone to Blazes has let's say,
caused a stir. You've all seen London's Burning well
now read about the Service un-sanitised. When
boys get together the conversation and behavior
invariably plumb the depths.
Despite censorship by those in authority
with a sense of humour bypass the book’s still as raw as ever, buy it, read it, laugh in a raucous fashion, I do and I wrote it!
Gone to Blazes? is a collection of riotous Fire Brigade tales which has been likened to London’s Burning meets Men Behaving Badly. Many books have been written by past and present firefighters but, as far as
I’m aware, nobody’s dared to tell it how it really is quite like this (probably why I’ve got into
trouble with certain people!)
I don’t visit the grim aspects at all, we all see enough of that through our TV screens wouldn’t you agree? And have you ever stopped to think how the Emergency Services personnel cope; we are not
automatons but real people who have to find something within ourselves to get through these events. In my experience and opinion it is one thing and one thing alone;
Read ‘Gone to Blazes?’ and you’ll find the answer, humour, dark often toiletry in nature found in the most unusual of situations.
After almost Twenty years service as both an Industrial and Local Authority firefighter I, like all others in the service, can recall many tales both gruesome and funny. To this end my profits from early
editions (provided it sells!) will go to the Fire Service National Benevolent Fund whose efforts help those less fortunate than I.
I’ve recruited a friend of mine to review the book before publishing, John H Stracey the cockney lad who topped the world and became boxing’s undisputed World Welterweight Champion, a true British hero.
